twelve

happy birthday, isabel!

I've begun another of my two-week blocks of patient care, so barring a miraculous lack of childhood infections (wouldn't that be great!), I'm afraid there'll be more blog silence over the next several days. I'll be back at the end of the month.

I did want to stop in and mention that yesterday was Isabel the Princess Kitty's twelfth birthday! And happily, she's feeling much better than she was a couple of weeks ago. Turns out that the antibiotic she was taking for another urinary tract infection wasn't agreeing with her. She started feeling better by the day after I stopped it (per her vet's instructions), and today I received word that it seems her infection has indeed cleared even though we weren't quite able to finish the entire intended antibiotic course.

Can't believe my girl is 12; I still remember her as a teensy kitten! I need to scan in some of her early photos and post them sometime. I only have them as prints because twelve years ago, I - and most other people - didn't yet have a digital camera. This month also marks three years since Isabel was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. I'm grateful for every day I get to have with her.

Postscript: I meant to mention that I got a new one of these for Isabel for her birthday. She loved her old one so much that she'd scratched it to bits. What is it with cats and cardboard? My mom has a cute but unprovable theory that cats like it because it's made from trees and appeals to some retained jungle cat instinct.
